ABOUT TENTH MUSE
Mission
Tenth Muse Presents' mission is to present art and build community through community education and artist development by and for women, with a focus on presenting and promoting the artistic works of feminists, lesbians and women of color.

Core Values
Develop and promote original operas and other artistic works exploring feminist themes;

Expand feminist art to include more women of color and queer subjects;

Develop educational and socially conscious programming that combines fine art with multicultural and queer sensibilities;

Develop and present these works in local cultural arts centers and promote them on an international level.

 

ACHIEVING OUR GOALS
To achieve its goals, Tenth Muse conducts activities in two program areas: Performing Arts and Community Building.

Tenth Muse’s Performing Arts Program serves to develop the Juana opera. Each staged reading and workshop production helps build audiences, refine the musical composition and libretto and evaluate the staging and other performance related aspects prior to the opera’s premiere in 2008.

Tenth Muse’s Community Building Program promotes audience cultivation and social justice through facilitated community dialogues and the presentation of cultural works by women. In 2006, Tenth Muse also began identifying women of color and lesbian artists who are developing new works to present a series of educational and interpretive programs in California, Mexico, Italy and Spain through work with the international organization, ComuArte.
